Start Modeling: Step 1
Take Some Snapshots of Yourself
If you are just starting out, take a few snapshots that will show your face, features, body size and shape. Modeling scouts want to see you natural and simple so don’t use a lot of make-up, and then decide if you have potential.
Go to a Modeling Photo Shoot
Photographs are the most important tool in a model’s career. If a modeling scout thinks you have potential, they will recommend for you to go to a professional photographer. Modeling scouts will even guide you towards the right style and market that they think you will be successful in. They may even refer you to a modeling agency that will pay for the cost of a photo shoot up front.

Get Composite “Comp” Cards Made
The Composite Photo Card (or Zed Card) is what your modeling agency will use to market you. A comp card will have a small collection of your photos personal statistics – height, weight, hair and eye color, and personal information that you can hand out at like a calling card. Even your photographers will keep your comp card on file for future projects and to show prospective clients.
Build Your Modeling Portfolio
Before you go to a modeling audition or a “go-see, you need to have a modeling portfolio, and it should include photographs, previous modeling jobs, and a list of types of modeling jobs you can do. It should also have a variety of photographs like headshots, full-body shots, fashion and swimsuit so that you can show your versatility as a model.

Go to Modeling Auditions
Start going to modeling auditions that are fitted to your modeling styles. Bring your comp cards and portfolio with you. Modeling agencies even have open auditions to search for new models. Like a modeling scout, if they think you have potential, they will want to represent you.
Get Experience as a Promotional Model
You can also start modeling for small projects or promotional products. Event marketing hire aspiring models to represent their products at booths and conventions. This will be a great way for you to gain some paid experience while marketing yourself.
